In the last of our Black History Month workshops, the children from Year 1 to Year 6 took part in a vibrant and educational workshop focused on African culture and history. The pupils participated in a hands-on activity where they learned to craft traditional African headbands using brightly coloured fabrics, each representing a unique aspect of African heritage.
The workshop introduced pupils to the rich cultural significance of African textiles, particularly fabrics like kente, adire, and wax prints, which have long been used in African fashion and ceremony. The children were taught how different colours and patterns in these fabrics symbolise various values, such as strength, unity, and community.
